How can we help?
Everything below is self-serve. If it isn't covered here, email us — a real person reads it.
Contact us
Email john@budulai.app. We reply within one business day, usually much sooner. Include your account email and, if something went wrong, roughly when it happened — that lets us find the request in our logs.
Subscriptions and billing
What the tiers include
Free is chat with Budulai. Basic adds rich cards, web search, calendar and reminders, voice input, file attachments, health devices and saved locations. Pro adds Gmail, Apple Health, rendered documents and charts, Flows, Deep Research and Techlepathy.
Basic and Pro are auto-renewable monthly subscriptions billed through your Apple ID. Payment is charged at confirmation of purchase and renews automatically unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the period ends.
How to cancel
Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not by us, so cancelling happens in your Apple settings:
- Open the Settings app on your iPhone.
- Tap your name at the top, then Subscriptions.
- Tap Budulai, then Cancel Subscription.
You keep access until the end of the period you've already paid for. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
Restoring a purchase
If you reinstall the app or switch devices, open Account → Subscription and tap Restore Purchases. Use the same Apple ID that made the original purchase.
Refunds
Apple handles all refunds for App Store purchases. Request one at reportaproblem.apple.com. Tell us as well if something we did caused the problem — we'd like to fix it.
Your account and your data
Deleting your account
You can delete your account from inside the app, and it takes effect immediately:
- Open the sidebar and tap Account.
- Scroll to the bottom and tap Delete account.
- Confirm. Your conversations, saved context, Flows and profile are erased from the device and purged on our server.
Deleting your account does not cancel an active subscription — cancel that separately in Apple Settings, as above.
What we keep, and for how long
Operational data on our servers is deleted after 30 days by a scheduled job. We don't sell conversations and we don't use them for advertising. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy, which is also readable inside the app at Account → Legal.
Exporting or correcting your data
Email john@budulai.app from your account address and tell us what you need — a copy of your data, a correction, or deletion. California (CCPA/CPRA) and European/UK (GDPR) rights are described in the Privacy Policy.
Permissions Budulai asks for
Every permission is optional and requested only when you first use the feature that needs it. Declining one disables that feature and nothing else.
- Calendar and Reminders — to read your schedule and create the events or reminders you ask for.
- Microphone and Speech Recognition — voice chat and dictation.
- Apple Health — read-only step count and walking/running distance for activity summaries. Budulai never writes to Health.
- Location — arrival and departure triggers for Flows, and local context in conversation.
- Contacts — looking up the people you ask to schedule or message.
- Photos and Camera — attaching images to a conversation.
- Bluetooth — optional heart-rate monitors and smart scales.
- Notifications — Flow results, morning briefings and Deep Research completion.
You can change any of these at any time in iOS Settings → Budulai.
Using the main features
Confirmations
Anything with a real consequence — sending an email, creating an event, running a Flow — shows a confirmation card first. Nothing happens until you tap to confirm.
Deep Research
Open Deep Research from the sidebar, enter a topic and tap Start. A multi-round research agent runs on our servers and typically takes 4–10 minutes. You can leave the app; a notification arrives when the report is ready. Reports cite their sources and flag claims that were fact-checked.
Flows
Flows are multi-step routines with schedule, location or manual triggers. Start from a template, inspect its steps before enabling it, and run any Flow by hand to see what it does.
Techlepathy (controlling your own Mac)
Techlepathy lets you control your own Mac from your iPhone. It pairs with a small companion agent you install on that Mac. Your iPhone only ever connects to a machine you have personally paired — never to anyone else's computer.
- On your iPhone, open Techlepathy from the sidebar and tap Pair a Mac.
- On the Mac, install and open the Budulai companion agent, then enter the pairing code shown on your phone.
- Grant the agent the macOS permissions it asks for. Accessibility and, for file search, Full Disk Access.
If pairing fails, check that both devices are online and that the agent is running. Unpair at any time from Techlepathy → Devices; unpairing immediately revokes access.
How Budulai asks. Each chat has a working folder. Inside it, and inside any folder you've said yes to in that chat, Budulai can open, edit, move and run things without stopping you. The first time he needs a new folder, he asks once. Deleting files, sending anything, network commands and anything that can't be undone always wait for your OK. Tap + → How Budulai asks to choose between Check with me first and Go ahead on your own, and tap the line above any answer to see every step he ran.
Troubleshooting
Budulai is slow to answer, or a request failed
Budulai runs on our own inference backend rather than a public API, so the first response of a session can take a few seconds. If a request fails to reach the server, retry once — and please tell us, because that usually means an outage on our side rather than something you did.
A paid feature looks locked
Check Account → Subscription to confirm which tier you're on, and tap Restore Purchases if you've paid but the app doesn't show it.
Voice input isn't working
Budulai needs both Microphone and Speech Recognition. Confirm both are enabled in iOS Settings → Budulai.
Notifications aren't arriving
Enable notifications in iOS Settings → Budulai → Notifications, and check that Focus modes aren't filtering them out.
